The New York State Department of Public Service (DPS) and the Public Service Commission (PSC) are responsible for regulating New York’s utilities – including electricity, gas, and telecommunications – to ensure fair rates and reliable service. Established under State Public Service Law, the Commission sets rates, oversees utility safety and siting of infrastructure, and promotes competition in energy markets. Ultimately, their mission is to provide New York consumers with affordable, safe, and innovative energy solutions while protecting the environment.
